Before your eyes is the so-called "Millecentenary Monument". The term "millecentenary" means the "1100th anniversary of the beginning of the Hungarian conquest" – as they were erected in 1996. The carved wooden headboards (kopjafák) depict the seven conquering chieftains and their grand prince, Árpád, while below the names of the chieftains, you can read the names of the organizations and surrounding settlements that covered the cost of each pole. The central element of the monument depicts the territory of the historical Kingdom of Hungary and present-day Hungary. We can safely say that the monument was realized through community cooperation and funding, and at its inauguration, the President of the Republic at the time, Árpád Göncz, also gave a speech. A charming local story is connected to this: the road leading up to the castle was fixed for his arrival so that he could drive up into the castle by car, but the President got out in the parking lot, saying: if István Széchenyi could walk from Vác to Nógrád, then surely he too could walk up from the parking lot to the castle. Encouraged by this, supposedly one of the oldest local women at the time also said that if the President could walk up, then she could too, and she didn't need any help.

You have already passed the greater part of the road leading up, and soon you will see the castle gate as well, but before that, we will make one more stop at the next bastion.
